Terms of Use
Last updated: August 26, 2026
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the DocLien website and services. This document is provided for general informational purposes and is subject to review and finalization by qualified counsel.
Acceptance of terms
By accessing or using the DocLien website (the "Site") or any services provided by DocLien (the "Services"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use (these "Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Site or Services. These Terms are provided for general informational purposes and are subject to review and finalization by qualified counsel.
Description of services
DocLien coordinates medical care for personal injury patients on behalf of referring law firms and arranges treatment on a Letter of Protection basis. The Services include provider matching and scheduling, ongoing care coordination, medical records retrieval, billing and lien support, and attorney case updates. DocLien provides coordination and administrative support only. DocLien does not provide medical advice, render medical opinions, direct or influence clinical decisions, diagnose or treat any condition, or guarantee any legal or medical outcome. All clinical decisions are made independently by treating providers.
No medical advice
Information provided through the Site or Services is for coordination and general informational purposes only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare provider with any questions regarding a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you have read or received through the Services.
No attorney-client relationship
Nothing on the Site or in the Services creates an attorney-client relationship between DocLien and any visitor, or between any law firm and its clients through DocLien. DocLien is not a law firm and does not provide legal advice. The relationship between a referring law firm and its client is governed solely by the engagement between them.
Eligibility and authority
By submitting a referral, a referring law firm represents and warrants that it has the legal authority to act on behalf of the identified client and that the information submitted is accurate to the best of its knowledge. By submitting a provider interest form, a provider represents and warrants that it is authorized to act on behalf of the identified practice and that the information submitted is accurate.
Referrals and authorizations
Referring firms are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information they submit. DocLien obtains signed HIPAA authorization directly from the patient before requesting any medical records. Referring firms acknowledge that DocLien relies on the authority and representations of the referring firm in accepting and acting on a referral.
Letters of Protection
Treatment arranged through DocLien is provided on a Letter of Protection ("LOP"), under which providers are paid from the proceeds of the case settlement. DocLien administers LOP documentation but is not a party to the attorney's fee arrangement with the client. Nothing on the Site or in the Services implies a fee-for-referral relationship with providers, and DocLien does not refer clients to specific providers in exchange for compensation. Provider selection is based on clinical appropriateness, availability, and geographic considerations.
Provider network
DocLien maintains a network of treating providers. Inclusion in the network does not constitute an endorsement or guarantee of any provider's services, qualifications, or outcomes. DocLien does not employ, control, or direct the clinical activities of any provider. Providers are independent contractors responsible for their own clinical decisions and professional conduct.
Acceptable use
You agree not to: use the Site or Services for any unlawful purpose; submit false or misleading information; interfere with or disrupt the Site or Services; attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Site; or use any automated means to collect information from the Site without our consent. DocLien reserves the right to suspend or terminate access to anyone who violates these Terms.
Intellectual property
The Site, including its content, design, text, graphics, logos, and software, is owned by or licensed to DocLien and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from the Site without our prior written consent, except as permitted by applicable law.
Third-party content and links
The Site may contain links to third-party websites and references to third-party providers. DocLien is not responsible for the content, accuracy, or practices of any third-party site and does not endorse any third-party provider. Your interactions with third parties are solely between you and that third party.
No guarantees; disclaimer of warranties
The Site and Services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. DocLien does not guarantee any particular legal outcome, settlement value, case result, or medical outcome. To the fullest extent permitted by law, DocLien disclaims all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, DocLien and its officers, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or data, arising from your use of or inability to use the Site or Services. Liability for coordination services is limited to the scope of the engagement between DocLien and the referring firm.
Indemnification
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless DocLien and its officers, employees, agents, and affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Site or Services, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.
Privacy
Our collection, use, and protection of information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. Please review the Privacy Policy for information about how we handle personal and health information.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to the Site or Services shall be governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which DocLien is organized, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. The parties consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in that jurisdiction for any disputes arising under these Terms, subject to applicable law.
Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will indicate the date of the most recent revision at the top of this page. Continued use of the Site or Services after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
